To-Do List Follow Up

Well, it's been more like 3 weeks since my original post of things I wanted to do that week.  I really did get most everything done within a week, but then I had to add on taking pictures, getting them imported into my computer, and actually writing this post!!

So - here are my accomplishments.

I had to pull everything out of the closet before I could organize it.
It looked like Michael's exploded!!
The boxes are things that were on the top shelf of the closet...old college yearbooks, old business notebooks, boxes of electronics we've bought that we need to keep for some reason, etc.  They all went in the attic crawl space, so I can get to them if necessary, but now I have the whole top shelf of the closet - that's where gift wrapping supplies and a few odds and ends go.

I set up a station for my sewing machine (it's new, I'm teaching myself)...one side of the desk is computer/server stuff for my husband, and the other side is my stuff.  (I also added a folding table in the corner for cutting/ironing.)

And this is the beautiful organized closet!!  I cleaned Walmart out of their stackable containers...I haven't added up how much I spent yet.  :)  But I think it's worth it for the organization.  And I realized just how much yarn I have.  Most of the drawers are full of yarn.  I've got quite a few projects in my future!

This is the laptop sleeve.  The first one I measured wrong, so I turned it into an iPad case to give to my sister.  I love, and might be making some of these for Christmas gifts.  The liner is the same color as the buttons...I found DIY fabric button things at Joann's and just hot-glued them on.  The straps fasten with straps, because I haven't been brave enough to try to sew buttonholes yet.

My Ruffle bag!!  The first ruffle took me 2 hours, but the rest went on pretty fast.  I shall make some of these for Christmas gifts as well.

I ended up finding another old T-shirt to use to make this embellishment.  I didn't touch the stack in my closet, but I'm counting it anyway.  :)

Oh, my counter is so very neat now.  I got this coatrack from the Container store..the hooks fold up when not in use, so it's very sleek looking.  Things get a little smooshed when the door opens all the way, but it works.
The Crayon Family...Blue & Red make Purple!!  (I so didn't plan it that way, but it's pretty cool, huh??  Mine and the little are made from all felt...it was my first sewing project with my new machine.  Aaron's is just an embellished T-shirt, and he opted out of the hat (or "dunce cap" as he called it).

I finished 1 scarf for Special Olympics, and I'm halfway through another, but I failed to take pics of that.

And, I ended up doing an amazing job in the relay with an 11:05 average.  More detail here, if you want it.

The to-do list was fun.  I make them all the time, and probably won't share them unless they're full of new, exciting (to me) projects like this one.  I've got a bazillion other projects in my head, but right now I'm working on Christmas decorating.  We're having at least 2 trees this year, perhaps 3.  Yay!!

So long...got to make wreaths while the child is napping!

Marathon Relay

Today I did a first...ran a marathon!!  {**relay**}
I was part of a 4-person team, and we split the marathon into 4 (not quite equal) parts.
Shane Kenny - Ron Davis - **ME** - Travis Brown
"Dr Funke's 100% Natural Goodtime Family Band Solution"

Ron was leg one at 5.5 miles.
Travis was leg two at 8 miles (was supposed to be 8.4)
I was leg three at 5.5 files (was supposed to be 5.1)
And Shane was our finisher at 7.2 (I think he said it was more like 7.4.)

Our official time was 04:37:22!

This was my time.  I'm super happy with it!!  My goal that I set here was 12:27 average, and I was soooo far ahead of that!  My lungs were on fire when I was done, and I needed a long nap (getting up before 5 am was also a contributing factor), but I did it and felt proud of myself!!

There's already talk of next year's relay...anyone want to join the fun??

"Running"

So, I've decided that I need help with my running.  I've hired my brother-in-law, Shane, to be my running coach.  He's got me on a heart rate training plan, and right now, I'm basically at a walk!  My heart rate zones are way low, and to keep the HR where it needs to be, I'm not quite at a jog!! (uG!) I may be posting some stats when they are not so embarrassing.  I'm hoping that the training works as well for me as it did for Shane...at least in time to run 5.1 miles of the marathon relay October 30th!

Mid-day Run

Today, at 12:12 pm
It wasn't bad.  I think the fall weather might be on it's way!!  Today was overcast and the temp was about 85 or so.  Very humid though.

Total Time:  36:16
Total Distance:  3.01 m
Avg Pace:  12:03
Avg HR:  175
Mile 1:  10:54 (hr 167)
Mile 2:  11:30 (hr 182)
Mile 3:  13:46 (hr 177)  **I had to walk about 1/4 mile of this one.  When I finished mile 2, my heart rate was 194.  I didn't want my heart to burst and have to pay late fees for not picking P up at preschool, so I decided to walk until it came down to 150.  Then I slow jogged the rest of the way home.

Recent Run Data

Whoops - I got busy last week with all the party stuff and didn't post my run data.  Here are the stats on my last 3 runs:

Monday, 8/29, 7:34 am
Total Time:  27:59
Total Distance:  2.01 m
Avg Pace:  13:54
Avg HR:  147
Mile 1:  13:07
Mile 2:  14:42  (ended up walking 1/2 of this one because my foot hurt)
Editorial:  I was definitely not feeling it that day...I made myself get up and get out, so that part of it felt good, but I was still tired and achy from the busy week/weekend, so I didn't really push myself at all.

Thursday, 8/25, 7:20 am
Total Time:  32:52
Total Distance:  3.01 m
Avg Pace:  10:56
Avg HR:  176
Mile 1:  9:58 (hr 171)  (*my best mile in a LONG time!)
Mile 2:  12:30 (hr 172)
Mile 3:  10:21 (hr 187)
Editorial:  I felt good going out and really pushed myself on the first mile.  Then, for the 2nd one i decided to take it easy and do a slow jog. (It actually wasn't that slow, compared to what I've been running lately...)  The 3rd mile I tried some interval stuff...I pushed it for about a tenth, then jogged for about a tenth.  I ended up pushing it for the last quarter mile, because I wanted to get my average under 11:00.  This is probably one of the best runs I've had in a while, although my HR was way high.  I have decided to ignore that.

Tuesday, 8/23, 7:30am
Total Time:  10:30
Total Distance:  1.03
Avg Pace:  10:12
Editorial:  I only had 15 minutes, so I pushed for a fast mile, then walked for 5 minutes.  I didn't wear the HR monitor.

At some point last week I did 20 minutes on the elliptical...Sunday maybe ??  I'm not back on my training schedule this week...I need to be next week, since that marks the 8 weeks leading up to the marathon relay....

Today's Run - a "Long Run"

I use quotes because I'm so slow I'm not sure it's considered running.  And it wasn't super long, but it was the longest run I did this week.  I'm not super happy with my time, but I've been a slacker about consistency the last couple of weeks.

On Monday I'm going to get back on my training schedule.  I've used the novice schedule from Hal Higdon in the past, so in lieu of anything better, I'm going back to that.  The next race I have planned is a marathon relay on October 30th.  I'm not sure yet what leg I'm running, but I've got to get up to somewhere between 5 and 8 miles by then.  Actually, I could probably run that now, but not well, and I want to do it well!

Here's today's data:  (One day I will figure out how to upload the data from my fancy watch....)

Total time:  52:30
Total distance:  4 miles
Average pace:  13:07
Average HR:  161
Mile 1:  12:41  (hr 150)
Mile 2:  13:31  (hr 160)
Mile 3:  13:25  (hr 166)
Mile 4:  12:42  (hr 169)

Today's Run

This morning I got up and ran, and it wasn't nearly as horrible as I thought it was going to be!  For the past 3 mornings, I was a lazy bum and decided to sleep instead of run, but I dragged myself out of bed in time to get in a 30 minute run today.  It was a little faster than I've run for the past few runs...not sure if it was the time off, or the cooler temps, but it actually felt almost great.  I have a love/hate relationship with running.

I used to hate exercising in the morning, but I've kinda gotten into the habit of it lately.  I just have to be back by 8 so the hubs can go to work.  I run out my front door and head toward downtown Acworth.  I have a few different paths I do, depending on how long I want to run.

I run for these reasons:
1.  So that I can eat like crap and not get (super) fat.
2.  So people think that I'm cool for running.  Go ahead, admit it, you know you do.

Here's my run data from this morning.

Total time:  30:18
Total mileage:  2.57
Average pace:  11:48
Average HR:  163
Mile 1:  11:45
Mile 2:  11:57
Mile .57:  6:36
